Week 13: Thanksgiving

Nov. 21 – Nov. 27

Unless otherwise noted, all assignments and tasks are due by 11:59PM. I strongly suggest you keep a healthy life-work balance and make sure to get enough sleep. Check the “best-before dates” policy in the syllabus.

Monday
  • □ Look ahead at the readings and tasks for this week, and plan in when you will do them. This is a good week to catch up if you’re behind on some assignments, but time will fly this week (unlike many a turkey 😥) unless you have a solid plan going into this week.
  • – Planning prevents last minute panic, and means you can make the most of our time together in class
Tuesday
  • □ Feedback on your fellow students’ posts:
  • – Read through and use Hypothes.is (Group HST269)  to comment on your fellow students’ posts: everybody likes some encouragement! Here is a random selection of three posts. If two or more posts are the same, or one is your own, just refresh the page for a different set. It’s all random, it’s all good!

Wednesday
  • No class! Thanksgiving Break!
Thursday
  • □ Eat that Turkey/Tofurkey!
  • □ Optional movie! If you miss our class this week and want some traditional China, you can’t go wrong with this: lots of practices and beliefs in popular religion find their origin in late imperial Chinese traditions, and transform earlier religious beliefs. This animated movie captures a lot of those, so you can get your weekly fix of Chinese history without too much trouble:
  • Little Doorgods (Xiao menshen) (Youtube link)
    • Little Doorgods. Directed by Gary Wang, Light Chaser Animation Studios. Alibaba Pictures, 2016.
Friday
  • □ Digest that Thanksgiving meal!
Saturday
  • □ Rest day – more digesting?
Sunday
  • If you’re catching up on missed work: Get your Weekly Report (aka “5-15”) in tonight as a blog post in category HST269. Thanks! (If you’re not catching up: congrats, no need to share unless you want to tell us all about your break.)
  • Yes, we’re back in the swing of things today!
